Missed the Transfer Day Program?

Friday, April 24th, 2009 · No Comments

While I ALWAYS encourage students to attend the transfer day program, I understand that not all can come during those particular dates.  Even though you missed the transfer days, ITS OK’!  For those students who were recently admitted, still deciding or just lazy (get to work!), you still have an opportunity to register for classes.

FIRST you need to know what your major program of study you were admitted into.  You can check this out on the www.welcome2isu.ilstu.edu web site OR contact the Office of Admissions at (309)438-2181 OR look at your acceptance letter.  From this point forward, all students who did not attend a transfer day will be receiving a new folder of information describing what to do next.

SECONDLY, submit to the Office of Admissions your most recent transcripts.  The purpose of doing this is so that your advisor is aware of which courses are recorded in our system by our evaluations office and how we have officially transfered them here. You will automatically receive a new Statement of Transfer Credit in the mail each time you submit your most recent academic transcripts.

THIRD,  you need to contact the department you were admitted into to schedule an appointment to meet with your advisor.  A listing of all the department phone numbers can be found online at http://www.ucollege.ilstu.edu/transfer_days/downloads/advisor_contact_info.pdf.

FOURTH, once you contact your department for an appointment, print off the Courses in Progress sheet attached.  If you are taking any courses over the spring and we have not yet received your grades or taking any summer courses, you will need to bring this with you for your adivsor to view during your appointment.

FIFTH, upon scheduling your appointment to speak with an advisor, you will be sent registration materials in the mail indicating where you park. It is really important that prior to attending your appointment that you activate your University Logon ID (ULID).  This ULID is your access to log into all the ISU computer systems on campus, as well as your logon for your e-mail and registration.  You can activate your ULID by viewing the http://www.helpdesk.ilstu.edu/ulid/.

LASTLY, below are documents that you will receive in the mail regarding scheduling an appointment with your advisor.  Please feel free to review and print.  Please ask me if you have questions!!

Transfer Day Program

Friday, February 6th, 2009 · No Comments

Wow, I can’t believe the Transfer Day Program is right around the corner… I’ve been getting a lot of questions about this too, which is a good thing!

The Transfer Day Program (TDP) is designed for all new transfer students to the university as a one day orientation for you to come to campus, meet with your advisior, attend an academic information session, register for classes, receive your ID card, and much more.  This is a great time for you to become more familiar with campus, PLUS you are registering when our native students are regsitering too!

Invitations will start going out to admitted students the week of February 16, so there’s no rush just yet.  Once you receive your invitation, contact the department you were admitted in.  For some students, you were admitted as undeclared, in this case, contact the Academic Advising office. If you are unsure of the major you were admitted, contact the Office of Admissions at (309)438-2181,  look on your acceptance letter or view your Welcome2isu portal at www.welcome2isu.ilstu.edu.

The TDP dates are all on Fridays this semester: March 20, 27, April 3 and 10. To learn more about the TDP, visit their web site at www.ucollege.ilstu.edu/transfer_days.

Have you checked your admission status?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 · No Comments

I would like to remind everyone to check their admissions status online at www.welcome2isu.ilstu.edu.  This web site is where you can find your admission status, if we are missing any documents from your file, and other things about your admission file.  Typically, you will find your admission status online quicker than us sending you a letter through the mail.

If we are currently missing a document from your file, we cannot review or give you a decision until your file is complete.  Feel free to cotact the Office of Admissions at (309)438-2181 or (800)366-2478 to learn if you are missing anything to complete your file.

If you have already been admitted for summer or fall, congratulations!  I highly encourage you to read through your “Transfer Guide for Admitted Transfer Students” that is sent with your admissions packet.  This guide will explain much of the enrollment process.  Also, please feel free to view the “Once You’re Admitted” web site at http://www.admissions.ilstu.edu/transfer/admitted/. There are many online resources that will help answer your enrollment questions as well.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Admissions if you have questions about your next steps.

Have a great spring 2009 semester!

Transferring Credits

Monday, October 27th, 2008 · 1 Comment

As many transfer students want to know, “how will my credits transfer to ISU?”… well, there are many resources available for you to learn how your credits will transfer prior to applying and admission.

If you are attending a 2-year community college in Illinois, then I encourage you to view the articulation handbooks online.  These handbooks will show you ALL the community colleges in Illinois, each course offered and how the course transfers to ISU.  This is a great resource if you are just looking for a quick link to see how a course will transfer.

I also encourage all transfer students to look on the U.Select (formerly Course Applicability System) web site as well.  This web site has two great compenents: 1. course equivalency guides for most schools, 2. students can input their course information, create a plan and view how their courses transfer AND learn how their courses apply toward a degree.

We encourage all students attending a community college to receive their associate’s degree (A.A. or A.S.), but it is not always necessary for admission. Students should refer to the transfer admission guide for information regarding prerequisites for certain majors.  Students who receive their A.A. or A.S. will receive junior standing and have all general education requirements completed.

Spring 2009 Admission

Monday, October 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Alright, so I’ve been getting many questions about students who wish to attend for the spring 2009 semester and here’s the deal:

  • Transfer students who will NOT have at least one semester (about 12 credits) already completed must wait to apply for summer or fall 2009.
  • Transfer students who have already completed a full semester of credits (less than 24 but more than 12) can still apply for spring but will be admitted on a space availability basis.  Admission will be based on high school transcripts, ACT score and your semester college transcripts showing at least 12 credit hours of completed coursework.
  • Students who have already completed more than 24 credits will need to follow the transfer admission guide and closed major list which can be found online at http://www.admissions.ilstu.edu/transfer/requirements/

I urge all students not to wait to apply though. The deadline for application and all necessary documents is November 1 (which is a postmarked deadline). However, please understand that applying this late can result in a limited course availability/schedule for spring registration.

Transfer Open House

Monday, October 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Hello transfer students!

I’m very excited to share with you information regarding our new open house transfer session.  I encourage all students to come to visit campus and to attend an open house.  Our fall Open House was today and our next Open House will be on Tuesday, November 11.  I believe the transfer session is a huge success for transfer students to learn all they can about the transfer process.  You can learn about the admission process, listen to a student panel, talk with departments, attend a financial aid sessions, take a tour of campus and residence hall and much, much more!

If you are interested in attending an Open House in the future please visit http://www.admissions.ilstu.edu/visit/open_house.asp.

More blogs to come, I promise! :)

Hi! My name is Rachel and I am an admissions counselor at Illinois State University.  I am an alumnus of the University and have been working in the Office of Admissions for 2 years.  As an admissions counselor, I visit many high schools and community colleges in the state of Illinois and enjoy helping students achieve a smooth transition.

Working in Admissions has given me the opportunity to meet many prospective students. Although my specialty is working with transfer students, I am very well versed to help all prospective students in their transition to Illinois State.  My blog will provide you with information about the transfer process and other helpful resources throughout the year. I am happy to be a resource for you during the transfer process, so don’t hesitate to ask me questions!
