The Provost’s initial charge to the Distance Education Task Force was to facilitate the appropriate use of distance learning within the core mission of our University. Although the Task Force will provide a final written report to the Provost by December 2009, the sub-committee on Administrative Structure and Funding has accumulated a significant amount of information regarding pending costs for distance education. From our work with the other subcommittees of the Distance Education Task Force, the campus focus groups, and others, our subcommittee is well aware of the costs of developing and providing online classes and programs, the necessary support systems, and the appropriate infrastructure to integrate online learning into the core mission of this institution. Our subcommittee is providing the attached interim report on the significant resource needs for distance education so that we can provide timely information to the President and Vice-Presidents for FY10 funding.

The full report (see link below) will provide details regarding this interim report of cost estimates for funding distance education at Illinois State University. We will provide you with additional updates as we have them.
